During the filming at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, Korbyl shared fascinating insights with the show's stars, Rick Harrison and his son, Corey Harrison.
Columbia Awards, Korbyl's parent company, was selected by the 1988 Winter Olympic Committee to laser engrave the distinctive graphic on the maple torch handles. At that time, Columbia Awards was among the pioneers of laser engraving technology in North America. The laser engraver used had the serial number 0012, underscoring the rarity of this advanced technology, as Korbyl noted. He emphasized that his father recognized the importance of this innovative technology early on.
"While we are extremely happy to have one of these super rare '88 torches, what we are most proud of is our connection to the 1988 Winter Olympics," Korbyl stated. Korbyl remarked that "the Olympics honor excellence, but the '88 Calgary Winter Olympics truly highlighted the underdog."
The Pawn Stars episode did not showcase the actual laser engraving fixture used for the torch handles. Additionally, three extra laser-engraved handles were not included in the episode.
